Next week is mental health awareness week and the theme chosen this year is anxiety.

This months blog will concentrate on anxiety, causes and symptoms and what we can do to reduce the impact anxiety can have on our wellbeing.

However, when anxiety becomes persistent and uncontrollable, it can interfere with an individual's daily life and well-being. In this blog post, we will discuss what anxiety is, its causes, symptoms, and treatment options.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. It is a natural response to stress, and it is the body's way of preparing for a potential threat. Anxiety can be a helpful emotion in certain situations, such as when we are faced with a dangerous situation that requires us to take quick action. Brain chemistry is also being studied as a possible cause. The areas of your brain that control your fear response may be involved.

Brain Chemistry: Anxiety can be caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain, such as serotonin and dopamine.

Medical conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, and thyroid problems, can cause anxiety.

Symptoms of Anxiety

Excessive worry or fear, Restlessness, Difficulty concentrating, Irritability, Muscle tension, Sleep disturbances, Panic attacks, Sweating, Nausea, Rapid heartbeat. This is not exhaustive however highlight multiple symptoms of anxiety to create awareness.

 

There are many Treatments for Anxiety it is important to find what works for you. The best approach will depend on the individual's specific needs and the severity of their symptoms. Some of the common treatment options for anxiety include:

Therapy: Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a common form of therapy used to treat anxiety. It involves identifying and changing negative thought patterns that contribute to anxiety.

Especially if it is having an impact on your wellbeing and every day life stopping you from doing the things that you want to do.
