Get Outside One of the best things you can do for your physical and mental health is to spend time outside. April is the perfect time to take advantage of the warmer weather and get some fresh air.   The connection between Sleep and our Wellbeing   Sleep is an essential and necessary part of our daily lives and wellbeing. It is a natural state of rest that is vital for the functioning of our bodies and minds. Getting enough quality sleep is crucial for our overall health and wellbeing. Sleep  is described as a state of reduced mental and physical activity, in which  consciousness  is altered, and  sensory   activity is inhibited to a certain extent. During sleep, there is a decrease in muscle activity, and interactions with the surrounding environment are significantly reduced . I find lack of sleep especially over a few days can impact my daily wellbeing and indeed my ability to function. It also leads me to eating more looking for that sugar hit to get me through the day. It is so important to get the recommended amount of sleep as much as we can.  According to the NHS, On average:   adults  need  7 to 9 hours; child...

Knowing Your Values and Being Authentic: The Key to Living a Fulfilled Life Do you know who you are and what you stand for? This can have a positive impact on your well being. Values are the principles, beliefs, and standards that guide our choices and actions. They are the foundation of who we are, and they influence our relationships, career, and overall sense of well-being. However, many of us struggle with knowing our values and living authentically, as we may have been taught to prioritize external expectations and societal norms over our own needs and desires. I quite often say “you do you”, I suppose this is being authentic in similar terms. It so important to feel every day that you are being yourself and that you are able to be yourself with those around you. In order to be ourselves it is important to know who we are not who we think we should be or the person others are comfortable with us being. So, how can we begin to understand our values and live in alignme...

Creating a Healthy Mindset 2023

Happy New Year . As we kick off the first month of the year, it's a perfect time to reflect on the role that mindset plays in our lives. I am a huge believer in setting goals as we are goal striving creatures, however I also believe we need to allow for reflection and rest. So if January is not your month and the whole “new year new me” is not your vibe that is ok lets work on mindset. It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life and lose sight of the power that our mindset has on our actions and outcomes. But the truth is, our mindset is one of the most important factors in determining whether we achieve our goals and live a fulfilling life. Think about it: if we approach a challenge with a negative or defeatist mindset, we're much less likely to persevere and find a solution.   On the other hand, if we approach the same challenge with a positive and growth-oriented mindset, we're much more likely to stay motivated and find a way to overcom...

TIS THE SEASON. This time of year can be so joyful and stressful at the same time. We place expectations on ourselves and others based on the perfect Christmas/Holiday season. As we know striving for perfection can cause so many issues and unnecessary stress and anxiety. Looking after our mental health is essential to reduce the impact this time of year may have                                                                              on us. Recognise that your feelings may be due to a combination of purchase-related factors including money worries, the pressure of last-minute shopping and unrealistic expectations of festive cheer. Remind yourself that many of these negative feelings will pass once the New Year is underway. Or even by the following day. Why do we do this? The re...

Globally, men die on average six years earlier than women, and for reasons that are largely preventable. Global wellbeing for all

It was World Mental Health Day on Monday, the 10 th of October. The theme this year is prioritizing mental Health globally.   Global mental health would be an amazing thing to achieve, however this all starts with you. If we all, one by one, start to look after and maintain our mental health and wellbeing, the ripple effect that would have globally would be amazing. I often say to people in conversations and in workshops that self-care is not selfish, it is essential. The world is a different place now than it was Ten,Twenty, maybe Thirty years ago across the generations. And we must adapt in diverse ways to modern technology, new ways of living, new ideas, all of those things. However, maintaining your wellbeing should not change. It should be done daily, consistently, in a way that fits around your life.3 People often ask me what do I do to maintain my wellbeing? So, on a daily basis, at a very basic level, I will do breath work, meditation and gratitude, and I do five...
